A Guide to the Selection and Common Misconceptions of Acupuncture Needles

Beginners are advised to start with a 0.25mm×25mm fine needle and advance to using a 0.3mm×40mm needle to adapt to deep stimulation. When making a choice, please note:

Material identification: Stainless steel needles have a high degree of smoothness, while silver needles have a matte texture.

Specification matching: For obese patients, long needles (75-100mm) should be selected, while for the face, short needles (25-40mm) should be chosen.

Avoid misunderstandings: Silver needles are not necessarily "the more expensive, the better". The choice should be based on the condition. Disposable needles cannot be reused.

Physicians should select needles comprehensively based on the patient's constitution and the stage of the disease, such as using fire needles in the acute stage and electroacupuncture in the recovery stage.
